| Abstract |
ASTERISMOS will show how Earth observation from satellites can be used within the decision process relating to surface mining activities. Two test sites in Greece and in Spain will be studied to see where Earth observation information can make a cost-effective input to the planning, operation or restoration of surface mining. The project will use a geographic information system to store and analyse the Earth observation data with geological, geomorphological and socio-economical data. This will enable the project to show the effects of possible mining practises and restoration techniques.
