Stratospheric ozone shields the surface of the Earth from the ultraviolet radiation of the Sun and thus permits biological life in its present form. Satellite and ground-based observations show ozone amounts to decrease. The main objective of this project is to perform field measurements at high latitudes yielding data which help to understand how polar stratospheric clouds and aerosols affect the nitrogen partitioning and generate active chlorine, which enters in the chemistry of the stratospheric ozone loss.
