| Abstract |
CLAUS will provide climate modellers with easy access to an archive of satellite based cloud data. It will test the usefulness of the data for validating forecast and climate models. CLAUS will construct an archive of global cloud data from the ISCCP (International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project) multi-satellite products. The data will be further processed to create a global data set with the temporal and spatial resolution needed for climate model validation and studies of mesoscale cloud systems. The data will be customised for comparison with the outputs from GCMs. The archived data will be tested by the participating climate research groups in an operational environment over an extended period. The full data set will cover the period from 1983 to present.
