The Modular Optoelectronic Scanner (MOS) is one of the instruments aboard the IRS-P3 (more info here) satellite. The MOS was specially designed for remote sensing of the ocean-atmosphere system. The center wavelengths of the MOS-B channels are chosen in accordance with the spectral characteristics of ocean and coastal zones and appropriate to construct quantitative retrieval algorithms of different water constituents. They also give the opportunity of vegetation signature determination (red edge) and estimation of H2O vapour content in the atmosphere from the NIR-measurements.
