| Abstract |
The SIG group on Forest Fires will organise the Fourth International workshop on Remote Sensing and GIS Applications to Forest Fire Management on June 5 to 7, 2003, following the EARSeL General Symposium in Ghent. This conference will follow on from three previous workshops held in Alcal de Henares (1995), Coimbra (1998) and Paris (2001) by the SIG group and will be held jointly with the GOFC/GOLD-Fire Program (http://gofc-fire.umd.edu/). The main topic of the workshop will be the application of new methods of image interpretation to fire danger assessment, detection of active fires and burned land mapping. Special emphasis will be devoted to global and regional approaches, to the integration of high and low-resolution data, and the transition of methods from research to the operational domain. Innovations coming from new sensors, such as lidar, hyperspectral and high-spatial resolution instruments will be reviewed. (Ghent University, Ghent - Belgium) |
