Abstract The INSAT (Indian National Satellite) system is a multipurpose geostationary satellite system for telecommunications, television broadcasting, meteorology and search & rescue services. The overall objective of the INSAT meteorological program is to provide round-the- clock surveillance service of weather systems including severe weather events around the Indian region. Commissioned in 1983, INSAT was and is also one of the largest domestic communication systems in the Asia-Pacific Region.
