TMO was given the new name, the Central Meteorological Observatory (CMO) in 1887, which was placed under control of the Ministry of Education. In 1956, CMO became an external organ of the Ministry of Transport and was renamed the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The Ministry of Transport, merged with the Ministry of Construction etc. became the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as from January 2001. |
