Abstract MagSat is a joint NASA and USGS (United States Geological Survey) mission, also known as AEM-3 (Applications Explorer Mission-3) and as Explorer 61. The objective is to obtain a first quantitative survey of the Earth's magnetic field (collection of data for improved modeling of the time-varying magnetic field generated within the core of the Earth, and to map variations in the strength and vector characteristics of crustal magnetization).
