| Abstract |
NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) is the official archive of the GOES Satellite data. NCDC has been collecting and archiving these data since 1978. This has been accomplished through a contract with the University of Wisconsin, and with the support of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). This archive consists of over 200 terabytes of data, and is one of the largest and longest-term collections of environmental satellite data in the world. Data can be provided in either digital or analog form, and in a variety of formats. Digital data may be obtained through ftp or on any number of digital media. Analog data may be obtained in various photographic formats, or in a graphic format (such as GIF or JPEG) transmitted digitally. See "Ordering Satellite Data" for details. |
