| Abstract |
SNAP-1 is a project of SSTL (Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd.), a spin-off company of the University of Surrey, UK, and the Surrey Space Center, started in 1998. The objective is to develop a modular, multi-mission nanosatellite bus (mass range of 1-10 kg), to demonstrate the use of miniature electrical and mechanical COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) product technologies in space and their use as autonomous robots for observing orbiting space vehicles. Future applications of nanosatellites are seen in remote inspection of satellites and monitoring of deployment systems in orbit, and carrying small space science instruments requiring measurements with spatial diversity. |
