| Abstract |
he wave spectra plots were generated upon request by the Alaska SAR Facility's Geophysical Processor System (ASF GPS). Full-resolution ERS-1 SAR image subscenes (i.e. sample radar backscatter returns from ocean areas) were the algorithm's inputs. These subscenes were passed through a two-dimensional Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), the output of which was smoothed by a Gaussian filter. Each subscene's dominant wave peaks were thus determined, and the calculated waves' directions and wavelengths were written to file. NCAR graphics routines were then utilized to generate a contour plot of the spectrum power in polar coordinates, with wave number as radius and wave direction (relative to the image orientation) as angle. Peak wavelengths and their directions were specified beneath the wave spectra plot. |
