Minimize Arena Pantanal, Cuiabá

This Pleiades image, acquired 04 March 2014, shows the Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá, Brazil.

Opened in April 2014, this stadium was built for the 2014 World Cup, and replaces the old Estádio José Fragelli (Verdão) stadium in the city, which was demolished in 2010.

This stadium hosts a capacity of approximately 40,000 people, and one interesting feature of the design is that trees have been planted in each of the four corners of the stadium. This is part of a "green" theme for the venue, in which recycling and clean waste is a focus. The nickname of Cuiabá is, in fact, Cidade Verde which means "Green City" in Portuguese.

Cuiabá has a population of just over half a million people and has been a centre of commerce and agriculture since it's founding in the 18th Century. It also has the distinction of being located in the exact geographic centre of South America, which places it in western Brazil.
