One of Chile's most important sea ports, Valparaiso was a vital port of call before the opening of the Panama Canal, offering a safe port for vessels travelling around the Strait of Magellan.

Nicknamed the "Jewel of the Pacific", Valparaiso is valued for its historical landmarks and architecture.
